Find the right light.

Bright indirect light is preferred. Non-variegated plants tolerate lower light for a time; protect from strong direct sun.

Low-light tolerance never means a dark room. Observe the actual plant position across the day and through the seasons.

Water by observation.

Allow the mix to dry moderately between waterings. Avoid both saturated soil and prolonged severe dryness.

A fixed weekly watering schedule cannot account for your light, temperature, pot or mix. Check moisture and drainage before deciding to water.

Give it room.

A compact, bushy desk or shelf plant. Avoid very drafty spots; medium to low indoor humidity is tolerated.

Living with pets

ASPCA lists Peperomia obtusifolia as non-toxic to cats and dogs. Do not confuse it with Ficus elastica, also called rubber plant.

These notes do not identify a plant. Check its scientific name with the seller. Any chewed plant may cause stomach upset; contact your local veterinarian if ingestion is suspected.
