Care reviewed 2026-10-04 · Scope: species

The toxicity evidence is an ASPCA educational guide rather than a dedicated species database page.

Find the right light.

Provide bright indirect light. Weak light can lead to stretched growth.

Low-light tolerance never means a dark room. Observe the actual plant position across the day and through the seasons.

Water by observation.

Keep a well-drained potting mix moist without leaving it saturated; overwatering can cause root rot.

A fixed weekly watering schedule cannot account for your light, temperature, pot or mix. Check moisture and drainage before deciding to water.

Give it room.

A compact, upright clump for a shelf or desk. Average household humidity is tolerated; avoid cold drafts and heat sources.

Living with pets

ASPCA includes Chinese money plant in its non-toxic plant guide. Its guide misspells the species name; NC State supplies the botanical spelling. Eating plant material may still cause stomach upset.

These notes do not identify a plant. Check its scientific name with the seller. Any chewed plant may cause stomach upset; contact your local veterinarian if ingestion is suspected.
